(Houston, Texas – Aug. 8, 2022) – Road races, a triathlon for kids and an ‘aquathon’ for adults and teenagers are all part of a weekend of athletic events during the Lago Mar Multisport Festival on Saturday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 21, at Lagoonfest Texas.

“This is a great event, whether your family and friends are taking part in the events, or you just enjoy watching some good family-friendly activities at a staycay summer venue,” said Uri Man, Chief Executive Officer of The Lagoon Development Company. “This is the only such race at a crystal clear lagoon in North America, with the clear waters enhancing safety for the racers. The competitors can focus on improving their performances; they are not racing against sharks or jellyfish which are clearly absent from our lagoons!”

Race Director Ron Stitt concurs, saying that it makes “a huge difference” for competitors.

“The swim portion of triathlons and aquathons are usually held in the ocean or a lake where visibility is low and there are other dangers,” Stitt said. “Racers being able to sight and see buoys is important, so hosting the swim portion in crystal clear water is a big deal.”

Racers get free Lagoonfest Texas day passes, along with discounted food, drinks and activities — with spectators able to purchase entry tickets at a discount.

Those who want to race and compete can register now at www.lagoonfesttexas.com and click on the Lago Mar Multisport Festival link at the top of the home page. Race packet pick-up is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at the lagoon at the Lago Mar community entrance gate, located at 3240 Lago Mar Blvd. in Texas City, Texas, and the mornings of each event day.

Race fees range from $52 to $99, depending on the selected event. All finishers will receive a commemorative medal, photos and race shirt or hat.
