Founding Father and second president John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail, on July 3, 1776, that the newly signed Declaration of Independence Was something to celebrate. “It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade…Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward and forever more,” he said. Now, 247 years later, Americans may not recall Adams’ words, but they surelycelebrate this birthday of all birthdays pretty much how he’d imagined.Houstonians looking for ways to mark our country’s most festive nationalcelebration will find a host of things to do this Fourth of July weekend.
